Pennsylvania Dreamin'...

My thrifting trip yesterday with Amy and Laura (of Thrifting Through Life) was a blast!  On Long Island we simply do not have the same type of cheap, widely stocked thrift stores like I see here in Pennsylvania!  (**If you live on Long Island and know of a really great thrift store, please share!!  There are a few, but I feel that it is a huge hit or miss.)

We started out at Blue Mountain, where I bought red spectator oxford pumps, a record, a cute blue houndstooth halter top, and some fabric for a future project.

Then we hit some antique stores in Annville.  I invested in a jewelry box that needs a little bit of love to be beautiful, and I also bought a rustic wooden box that was apparently used to dry cigars.  It has tray drawers which I will be fixing up, lining with velvet, and using for my jewelry/beading supplies as well!  I absolutely love finding random old items that I will use in a future craft project.

We checked out two other thrift stores: American Vintage and Jubilee.  I got a dress that needs a lot of serious help at American Vintage, but I fell in love with the style, so I asked for a good price.  I also got a really nice blue wrap dress from Jubilee!  It was a great day of thrifting!
Today we took lots of photos today which I cannot wait to share!

You've Got Something on Your Nose, Right There...

This week I decided that it would probably be in my best interest to go visit my friends Amy and Laura (Laura of Thrifting Through Life) who I met at my former college.  They live in Pennsylvania, so I drove by myself yesterday afternoon for five hours.  This was my first ever trip that was even close to this long, so I was quite happy I didn't get lost and made basically good timing!

Instead of going to bed at 1:30am, we made cocoa facial masks.  We got the idea after we had a discussion about the crazy chocolate spa at the Hershey Resort.  We got the recipe from craftgossip.com.  We made three batches, though if you try this, one batch is enough for two-three people.  This was such a fun idea and we enjoyed it a little too much!

 1/4 cup Honey
1/3 cup Cocoa
     3 tsp oatmeal powder
                        add 2 tbsp heavy cream
   mix everything!
enjoy spreading it on your face...
 ...and help your friends out!

I will definitely try this facial treatment again one day because it was way too much fun to not repeat!
I went thrifting with these lovely ladies all day today and we obviously documented our trip, so I will be blogging that sometime soon!

Get chocolatey, it's worth it!

A Work and Play Weekend

Weekends start on Friday for me because I have no Friday classes, however I did have work Friday and Saturday.

I work at Re-Threads Boutique in Setauket, New York - a consignment store.  Consignment is a resale store in which consigners bring in clothing and accessories they would like to sell, and they earn 50% of the profit.  Re-Threads has been closed this month for renovation and we will be re-opening on February 29th, next Wednesday!  I am quite excited because I love my job!  I have a great boss, Nancy, and we get so many interesting items from consigners; it's never a dull moment at work!  We've been taking in new consignment, and we've had some interesting things come in already.  Currently, we are stocking up for a gown/evening wear promotional sale for prom and wedding season.

Besides work, I spent the past two evenings with Amanda, Alyssa, and Sophia.  Friday we had dinner at school, and then went to Selden Thrift, where I bought Italian leather shoes to wear with my vintage dresses!  Sophia picked up a pair of shoes as well.

After work and studying, Saturday night I picked up the girls once again, and we hung out at my house.  Alyssa has been dying to make and eat homemade peanut butter cups, so we enjoyed both the creation and consumptions of this dessert!  It's been a really fun weekend so far.  These girls are great friends and so fun to be with. :)

Tomorrow I will be studying a lot more, however, I will be taking a break to do a sewing project that I've been eager to accomplish for a while now!  I am shortening a late 60s/ early 70s gown I bought at Re-Threads last year.  I will be sharing this project as a blog post quite soon!

   Goodnight!

Ah, Typewriters!

When I saw the Etsy Blog post today "Long Live the Typewriter" I dropped everything to read it.  I have always been fascinated with typewriters, ever since I would play for hours with my sister on my grandmother's electrical one in her apartment.  In 4th grade, I would type letters back and forth to my best friend once my parents found one they had in our basement.  When I was 11 I wanted one of the black, classic manual typewriters, and finally came across one in 12th grade at my church's garage sale.  I took this Royal home, and clean it up, bought a new ribbon, and sits prominently on my desk!

That's when I obtained another one, almost instantly, because Nancy (my to-be boss at the time) told me that I could have the one that was hidden away in a house she was helping to clean out.  This Remington typewriter has been doused in soapy water by my grandfather, and still needs some work, but is still beautiful.

Then, while at Juniata, my former college in PA, my mom and I came across my pink Royal portable typewriter in a thrift shop on my birthday!  It was meant to be, since I actually had wanted a typewriter at school with me!

During this past summer, Nancy came into the consignment shop and said to me "Was it you or your sister who collects typewriters?"  I gleefully said it was me and she told me she had a surprise for me.  She opened the typewriter case, and gave me my third Royal, the twin boy to my pink royal.

I personally think that everyone should have a typewriter.  They are great to type out anything :)

Something New...

Today is my last day of dog/house-sitting for my neighbor.  I will be missing Beast, my canine ward, but now I will have time to work on my new blog!  This is something new for me, which I am quite excited about!

I've been having a great time with Beast, and I think he enjoyed meeting a new friend or family member every day!

So, welcome to my new endeavor, where I will update with current craft projects, what I am doing at my favorite job (I work at Re-Threads Boutique, the best consignment store, located in East Setauket, New York,) my estate sale/thrift store/yard sale finds, and anything else I'd like to share with you guys!

Can't wait to create posts, and share ideas with my future followers!
